Imnajdra & Ħaġar Qim

After completing the first topic of Social Studies – Żmien il-Preistorja, Year 6 students had the opportunity to visit the megalithic temples of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra. The introduction included a short but interesting 4D movie which the students really enjoyed watching. This served to give them a good background about the temple period.

An informative guided tour by Mr Joseph Scerri was given on site, about the different composition of stones, boulders and methods used in the construction of the temples. Information was also given about the durable and softer globerigerina limestone, important artefacts and other decorative statues and pillars.

Besides serving as fieldwork, this cultural visit stimulated the students’ interest and helped them appreciate the amazing prehistoric sites built by our ancestors. Back at school they continued working on projects on the same subject.
