Grade 1 Storytelling

“Żuża ż-Żebra l-Kurjuża” is a big story-book in Maltese by Mark Zammit and illustrated by Ruth Cilia. It is about a very curious zebra living in the savanah. Her friends wanted to teach her a lesson. Żuża’s friends were Bertu the serpent, Kelin the monkey, Tinu the elephant, Doru the bear, Pinu the frog, Nina the fish and Rokku the crocodile.

It was a very enriching experience. After the story was read out, the pupils were asked to recall the animals mentioned in the story as well as the initial letter of each animal name and the ending:

żebra
serp
xadin
iljunfant
ors
żrinġ
ħuta
kukkudrill

These animal names were then written down on a blank paper and the pupils had the opportunity to draw and colour the eight animals in the story.
